The PhD project comprises experimental studies of drug-induced effects on the adolescent brain. The studies will focus on drugs of abuse that adolescents often are exposed to, i.e. alcohol, cannabis and nicotine. Neurobiological and epigenetic studies are used to investigate the mediators and the mechanisms of drug exposure early in life. The purpose is to increase our knowledge about effects of early-life drug use and its consequences for later vulnerability for drug addiction and drug-induced harmful effects on the brain.

The applicant should have a genuine interest in basic research in neurobiology and pharmacology. Documented experience of experimental work (FELASA or similar certification) and experience of laboratory work such as biochemical analysis and experiments with cell cultures is a merit. The successful applicant must be self-motivated, be well organized, possess good oral and written communication skills in Swedish and English and be proficient in basic computer programs. Documented knowledge within pharmacology is a prerequisite for the position. A degree from Pharmaceutical programs is a merit since the PhD position also includes teaching in Pharmacology, especially in neuropharmacology and drug dependence, at Pharmaceutical programmes.
