The Elizabeth Jolley Memorial Scholarship is intended to encourage and reward students who have demonstrated academic excellence through their ATAR and have an interest in pursuing a career in creative writing or literary and cultural studies and are enrolling in the Bachelor of Arts with a major in either (Creative Writing) or (Literary and Cultural Studies) at Curtin University. The scholarship recognises the contribution made by Elizabeth Jolley (1923-2007) to Australian literature. Her literary career began with the publication of her first book, Five Acre Virgin and Other Stories (1976), and continued with some two dozen books of essays, fiction, plays and poems. During her distinguished career, she won many overseas literary awards and every major Australian literary prize. She also pioneered the introduction of creative writing at Curtin and taught in this discipline for more than 20 years. Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be considered for an Elizabeth Jolley Memorial Scholarship: -Have selected Curtin University as a first preference through TISC to undertake a Bachelor of Arts with a major in either (Creative Writing) or (Literary and Cultural Studies) -Be undertaking the first semester of their first undergraduate degree at Curtin University in semester 1, 2013 -Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or the holder of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian or Permanent Resident visa -Be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported place
