Department of Mathematics at the University of Sussex is offering postgraduate research studentship for a project on Algorithmic Construction of Finsler-Lyapunov Functions. This projects mainly covers the areas of Dynamical Systems theory, the development and analysis of algorithms as well as programming in C++. Students in this project will be accomplishing their goal to derive and implement an algorithm to construct such a Finsler-Lyapunov function. This studentship includes £13863 per annum tax-free bursary and waiver of UK/EU fees each year for 3.5 years. The application deadline is 15 July 2014..  The goal of this project is to derive and implement an algorithm to construct such a Finsler-Lyapunov function and to show that for stable systems, the algorithm will always succeed in constructing a Finsler-Lyapunov function, establishing a constructive converse theorem. The successful candidate will benefit from the research environment within the Department of Mathematics at the University of Sussex as well as from interactions with the group of Assoc. Prof. Sigurdur Hafstein (Reykjavik University, Iceland).. Studentship is available for undertaking postgraduate research project.

Who can apply to this scholarship? Candidates should consider following points:
· Only UK and EU residents are eligible.
· UK residents are eligible for full awards, including fees and maintenance.
· EU residents are eligible for awards covering fees only, but EU students who have studied in the UK for the previous three years may be eligible for a full award. EU resident applicants should check this page before applying.
· Applicants should hold, or expect to hold, a good honours degree (first or upper second class) in Mathematics or a related subject. Experience in Dynamical Systems and/or programming in C++ would be an advantage.
Benefits of the scholarship: This studentship includes £13863 per annum tax-free bursary and waiver of UK/EU fees each year for 3.5 years. Additional funding of £1650 per annum will be available for attendance at research conferences, additional training etc. UK residents are eligible for full awards, including fees and maintenance.
