The Scholarship shall be awarded by the Council on the result of an examination to be conducted by the Head of the School of Music or his or her Deputy, with the assistance of another member of staff from the School of Music; and a third examiner, who will not normally be a current member of staff in the School of Music. The assistant examiners will be appointed by Council on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Music, and the Council shall be entitled to pay any external fees for examining out of the income of the Fund.
The Scholarship shall be open to students under the age of 30 years at the time of application who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and have completed or will complete in the year of application any Degree or Diploma in performance (with or without Honours) or any postgraduate music degree at The University of Auckland. Preference will be given to a student or students intending to improve their instrumental or vocal skills overseas and who, but for the Scholarship, would otherwise be unable to study at The University of Auckland or other preferred Music School. Each candidate shall be examined in performance.
