We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to participate in a project investigating the rheology of crystal mushes. The aim of the project is to examine the interdependence of microstructure and deformation, with application to gabbroic cumulates. The work will involve examining the inter-relationships between grain-scale structure and rheology in deforming crystal mushes, to quantify the dependence of rheology on microstructure, and assess how deformation affects microstructure. The research will involve field studies of igneous intrusions, coupled with experiments on low-temperature analogues and will be based on a combination of approaches, including microstructural analysis, geochemistry and experimental work, so previous experience in one or more of these areas is expected.
We are looking for someone who is numerate, with a PhD broadly in the field of igneous petrology, with good communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and with a track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
