The Institute of Astronomy has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with the Cambridge Astronomical Survey Unit (CASU). The Unit undertakes a range of activities in wide field astronomy including: managing a data processing and archive centre; pipeline processing and analysis of optical and near-infrared mosaic imaging surveys (including WFCAM, VISTA and VST); spectroscopic surveys such as Gaia-ESO on the VLT; and various space mission projects such as Planck, GAIA, and Euclid. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field or have submitted by time of appointment, and have the ability to work independently within strategic guidelines. Candidates are expected to be familiar with the acquisition and reduction of data from astronomical imaging instruments and with the use of database and web-based systems. Experience and practical knowledge of linux operating systems and Perl or Python scripting languages is a requirement, while knowledge of SQL and database systems would also be advantageous.
