The Institute of Astronomy has two vacancies for postdoctoral researchers to start in November 2012 within the Gaia-ESO Survey project. This very ambitious project obtains ESO/VLT multi-object spectroscopy for abundance and kinematic studies of all the Galactic stellar populations.These positions are to work with the Co-PI, Gerry Gilmore, and the Cambridge team which supports Survey implementation and data processing. The appointees will contribute to Survey support, and play an active role in scientific analyses.The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity. Applicants must have (or have submitted) a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field by the time of appointment to the post, and will be expected to work independently within strategic guidelines.Experience in handling large-scale spectroscopic datasets, and/or the analysis of survey data for stellar populations would be advantageous.
