The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) is offering training grants for applicants from low- and middle-income country (LMIC). These grants are available for postgraduate training leading to MSc and PhD degrees focused on disciplines relevant to implementation research. Women are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have no more than three and five years post-graduation for men and women respectively. Online application must be submitted by 7 February 2014.. Who can apply to this scholarship? Only applications from individuals who are nationals of and based in LMICs will be considered. Specific focus will be given to applicants from least developed countries. The target age bracket is 25
· 30 years for MSc grants and up to 35 years for PhD grants. Applicants must have no more than three and five years post
· graduation for men and women respectively. Preference will be given to candidates who have a provisional acceptance or course registration in an accredited university in addition to being employed in their home institution. Priority will be given to local or regional training. Applicants already registered for a doctoral degree in their home country requesting support for their thesis research should provide evidence of registration, research project proposal (with ethical clearance if applicable), as well as an itemized fully justified budget up to a maximum amount of US$ 20 000.
Benefits of the scholarship: The grants will cover: -Return economy air fare (where necessary) between the home country of the applicant and the host university/institution; -Tuition fees and basic medical and accident insurance (usually obtained through the university or sponsor approved medical insurance scheme); -A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses (stipend) if grantee is not based in home country and cost of recommended learning materials (reference text books and laptop); – When necessary, a language training course to improve the grantee’s academic performance; -Support for PhD research project thesis or applied research to improve an area of public health of national relevance, up to a maximum amount of US$ 20 000.
