ZEF University of Bonn is offering  Germany PhD Fellowship on aforestation for rehabilitation of degraded land in Sudano-Sahelian zone of northern Benin within the framework of WASCAL. The fellowship covers the stipend and research funds. The duration of the fellowship period is 3 years. Applicant must have a Master’s degree in the field of forestry and agroforestry or soil science. During fieldwork applicants will be employed at Tanguiéta, Benin and for data analysis and thesis write-up in Bonn, Germany. Applicant must have a good understanding of English and French language. Application should be e-mailed by January 15, 2014.. ZEF is looking for a candidate to conduct a Ph.D. study on aforestation within the framework of West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL; The study will focus on silvicultural aspects of establishing tree plantations on marginal, nutrient-depleted and eroded soil. The data from field trials should be used for setting up a process-based model for further simulation analyses. The Ph.D. candidate is expected to collaborate with colleagues from other WASCAL studies on plant growth and nutrient cycling.. Fellowship is available for pursuing PhD research program at ZEF University of Bonn in Germany.

Duration: Elaborating a full research proposal and work plan at ZEF is expected in March/April 2014 to proceed with the field research in May 2014. Participation in ZEF Doctoral courses in October 2014 will be required. The duration of the scholarship period is 3 years.
